Payments Consultant | UK Domestic Payments

We are supporting a major financial services programme and are seeking experienced Payments Consultants with specialist expertise in Bacs, Faster Payments (FPS) and/or CHAPS.

This is a specialist advisory role focused on UK domestic payment schemes, operational processes and implementation considerations. The successful candidate will work closely with Business Analysts, Product Teams, Architects and programme stakeholders, providing expert guidance on how payment schemes operate and what organisations must consider when delivering payment capabilities through a sponsor bank model.

This is not a project management, transformation or delivery leadership role. We are specifically looking for payments professionals with deep scheme knowledge who can advise on operational mechanics, participant obligations and industry best practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide subject matter expertise across Bacs, Faster Payments and/or CHAPS.
• Advise stakeholders on scheme mechanics, operating models and implementation considerations.
• Support discovery, requirements gathering and solution design activities.
• Provide guidance on sponsor bank and indirect participation models.
• Review payment solutions and ensure alignment with scheme requirements and industry standards.
• Support Business Analysts, Product Owners, Architects and technical teams throughout delivery.
• Explain payment flows, message processing, operational controls and participant responsibilities.
• Identify risks, dependencies and operational considerations relating to UK domestic payments.
• Deliver knowledge transfer and specialist guidance to programme stakeholders.

Experience Required

• Demonstrable expertise in one or more of:
  • Bacs
  • Faster Payments (FPS)
  • CHAPS
• Experience operating, implementing or supporting UK payment scheme capabilities.
• Strong understanding of payment processing, scheme rules and settlement processes.
• Experience advising stakeholders on payments-related business and technology initiatives.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Experience with organisations such as Form3, Vocalink, Finastra, ACI Worldwide, Volante, Bottomline, Temenos, ClearBank, Banking Circle or Modulr.
• Consulting experience within large-scale payments programmes.
