Lead Machine Learning Engineer – £575/day – Inside IR35 – Central London

RecOps is partnered with a leading consultancy supporting a large AI/ML programme for an insurance client.

This is a hands-on Lead Machine Learning Engineer role, focused on taking AI/ML systems into production and building the engineering around them.

£575/day, inside IR35, hybrid in Central London once per week.

Key skills:

• Strong commercial experience building, deploying and supporting machine learning systems in production.
• Excellent Python, including Back End/API development, async programming and clean software engineering practices.
• Recent hands-on experience building, deploying and supporting AI/ML systems in production.
• Strong cloud infrastructure experience. Azure is preferred, but strong AWS/GCP experience is transferable.
• Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, monitoring and production troubleshooting.
• Experience with MLOps, model/version management and production life cycle management.
• Good understanding of security, access controls, reliability and governance around AI/ML systems.
• Experience with GenAI/RAG, vector search, evaluation and LLM reliability.
• Lead-level experience setting technical direction while remaining hands-on.

This isn’t a pure data science or prompt engineering role. The focus is on the engineering required to get AI/ML systems running reliably in production.
